Harding Centennial Hunter Pace – June 19th and September 25th!
In celebration of Harding’s Centennial, the Harding Land Trust is proud to sponsor a series of equestrian events. These events will be held on the following dates in the form of Hunter Paces:
Saturday, May 21st
Sunday, June 19th
Sunday, June 25th
A hunter pace is a competition involving horses and riders in which a marked trail is followed by the horse and rider. The pace time is the ideal time to safely, but quickly, ride the marked trail. The courses will be approximately 8-10 miles through Harding’s beautiful network of bridle trails and open spaces. The courses will involve jumps and natural obstacles. The competitors ride in teams of 2 or 3 riders. Each team is timed. Riders are penalized for riding too fast and beating the ideal time or taking longer than the suggested pace time. The team coming closest to the suggested pace time wins the competition.
Good viewing opportunities can be had at Bayne Park and Margetts Field. The start and finish of the competition will be at the Show Grounds on Sand Spring Lane at the corner of Sand Spring Road. You will see horses and riders crisscrossing throughout Town. Please be mindful that horses and riders have the right of way. Please leash your dogs.
The Harding Land Trust, a non-profit, volunteer organization, works to protect Harding Township’s open spaces, bridle trails, streams and waterways, as well as other ecological resources.
